Bodywork for Children FAQ
Commonly Asked Questions
-
Families seek bodywork for many reasons, including tension, movement restrictions, discomfort, recovery from physical stress, or simply noticing that their child doesn't seem comfortable in their body. We’ll talk about what you’re seeing and decide whether my work is an appropriate fit.
-
Often, not like an adult massage! Children may sit, wiggle, talk, play, change positions, or take breaks while I work. I adapt the session to the child rather than expecting the child to adapt to the session.
-

-
Absolutely. I want children to feel safe and supported, and parents are an important part of that.
-
We go slowly and build trust first. I explain what I'm doing in developmentally appropriate ways and respect your child's communication, including when they need space or don't want an area touched.
-
Yes. Sessions can be adapted around sensory needs, communication differences, movement, positioning, and the child's tolerance for touch. Please tell me what helps your child feel safest.
-
Yes. Particularly with fascial and cranial work, more pressure isn't necessarily better. I use the amount of contact appropriate for the individual child and what their tissues are communicating.
-
Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is usually ideal. I’ll let you know beforehand if anything different would be helpful for the type of work we're planning.
-
Current child appointments are scheduled for 60 minutes. That gives us time to work without rushing and allows space for your child's individual needs.
-
We'll reassess after the session. I look at how your child responds rather than automatically assuming more appointments are necessary.
